Hello! This is Jubal McDaniel with NW Football Ministries. NWFM hosts soccer camps throughout the year in different parts of Washington and Oregon. In the Fall, we help kids play by offering recreational soccer teams in Tacoma, WA.
At the beginning of July, NWFM was able to partner with World Relief in Spokane, WA to host a soccer camp for refugee youth. Together, with the help of The Ball Project, we were able to serve 55 youth ranging from 10-18 years old. Each child received a soccer ball, cleats, shin guards and soccer socks.
My takeaway from this camp was watching a small group of young Afghani girls throughout the week. In their home countries, women are not allowed to engage in activities like this camp. However, I have never seen such freedom and joy, around the game of soccer, as I saw in these young girls.
One of the World Relief staff told me that he has been working with these youth for six years, and has never seen them outside. Word was also passed along from the girls’ parents, and how happy they were to see their daughters enjoying sport for the first time.
We are looking forward to working together on this project again next year!
Ball Project is thankful for our partners, like NWFM, that are committed to build communities & help children play.
