Here is an encouraging update from one of our partners in Guatemala:

Amigos de la Aldea is a Guatemalan organization, which originally focused on Rural Development in projects on solar energy, clean cook stoves and water filtration. More recently, ADLA has focused on the education and development of girls in rural communities. We believe that educated rural women play a key role in supporting their households and communities in achieving food and nutrition security, generating income, and improving rural livelihoods and overall well-being. As moms, they can foster Christian values, principles and traditions that keep our societies strong.

We are now supporting and providing scholarships to 120 girls based in Jalapa (eastern Guatemala) and looking to open another support project in Esquipulas in northeast Guatemala.

Since 2009 we have given over 750 full scholarships to rural children that include tuition, teachers, curriculum, books, supplies, backpacks and uniforms. We have also donated computer equipment and other facilities to improve education. We also have supported them with sports supplies and playground facilities but in a more limited way.
