Here is a great update from our partner LYN House in Indianapolis, Indiana:

During the summer months we have afternoon camps for kids K – 6th grade. This summer we had 5 different camp experiences focused on the arts. Each camp is 3 hours long and happen 4 – 5 days a week. Some camps are more hands on and others are more academic focused. To keep the kids engaged and moving we will have movement activities ready as needed. Sometimes we need them because we did not plan enough activities and sometimes they are needed because we have sat too long.

For our camps we downloaded a play guide by PlayWorks. An almost 400 page document of fun interactive games. We wanted easy access and paid to have it printed. This is a wonderful resource and makes it easy for us to grab a fun interactive game quickly and keep the kids engaged. I unfortunately do not have any photos of us playing games because we kept so busy this summer I failed to take many pictures. I have included the PlayWorks resource for you to share with other sites.

In the fall we will be working with Spades Park Library to offer a Makerspace program focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). This will be another perfect opportunity to use the Play Works Game guide. We also purchased some board games to help with days that we finish early or it is too cold or raining outside since we won’t have access to a gym or large open space.

In the fall we will start back tutoring and add an exercise curriculum to our time prior to tutoring and in January we will launch our third season of basketball. Ball Project funds will be used to purchase equipment for these programs. Thanks for helping us enrich our programs through adding movement to our days and fun games.

PlayWorks free downloadable Game Guide looks like a great resource. LYN House is a beautiful model of partnership – being open handed with resources, networking & helping others to help children play.

Thanks everyone at LYN House & keep up the good work!

LYN House provides tutoring for children and youth Kindergarten – 8th grade.

Our students have been arriving 30 minutes prior to tutoring starting. We decided to use this extra time to provide exercise and nutrition lessons. We received a grant to provide yoga on Tuesdays and nutrition lessons every other Thursday. On the alternate Thursdays we provide a exercise time using ball equipment and circuit equipment.

The Ball Project grant allowed us to purchase some equipment for this time. We also used the funding to buy some fun board games that can be earned to play during tutoring. We have also used these games on days when kids don’t have homework for our Kid’s Club program.

LYN House has also been a great partner with The Viewfinder Project‘s photography program & their mission to help kids of all ages “see life differently.”

LYN House is similar to many Ball Project partners around the world in that they are a small locally focused organization serving children & the community faithfully.

As always, Ball Project is thankful for our partners, like LYN House, that faithfully work to help children play & achieve their full potential.
